Are Regular Backups Useless?
-
So I installed this and it seems to work well. I’ve used it several times. I haven’t tried to restore from it yet – but once I have I’ll rate it.
I see a problem with the scheduled backups feature.
The backups are always put in to the same directory as the prevous backup (unless you manually change it). This results in the previous backup being overwritten.
So what if –
- An hour before the next scheduled back up a hacker hacks your site
- The backup runs and overwrites your un-hacked backup
You now have a fully restorable backup of the *hacked* version and no un-hacked version available.
To make this plugin useful shouldn’t it backup to date/time stamped directories? (If this is a premium feature then disabling automatic backups on the free version would make some sense to ensure the user isn’t left with a useless backup).
