• Hi folks,
Please pardon my beginner questions. I have a domain, registered by FatCow. There is a basic website built with Weebly Drag and Drop editor. I installed WordPress to the root directory, and am having trouble. My site didn’t change at all, and when I try to view my site from within WordPress dashboard, I get a white screen only. There is a “sample” WordPress page that is live.
I think there may have been an issue with the install since I already have an index.htm file, built by Weebly? Does WordPress install an index page or other front page? Should I delete everything including the Weebly site (after backing up) from my root directory and try the install again?
    Thanks!

  • Hi, yes you have to delete the index.html (your current sites home page) to get to the wordpress front page. Note: your current sites home page will disappear if you delete. You could install wordpress in its own folder if you want to keep your old site up while developing. e.g https://www.newopoliscity.com/wordpress

Thanks so much maoski. I’m perfectly ok deleting everything on my root folder and starting with a fresh install of WordPress. Is there anything wrong with the idea of deleting everything? Like, are there files that NEED to be there, whose deletion would mess everything up royally? Thanks again!
