WordPress, Media Server, and WAMP

Hi, I am a current computer networking major and I am trying to figure out how to go about my senior networking project but I am unsure how to accomplish the tasks at hand. I am currently working on creating a website that uses a database, calendar, and a media server. The purpose of the website is a music site; a blog which is easy, the calendar which is kind of easy except I have been trying to use these hacks to make a page dedicated to my calendar instead of the link localhost/mysite/event in which they suggest making a new template which i did but as I go to the new page the template does not show up. The media server is my biggest task at hand and if someone can offer me some assistance it would be greatly appreciated. I want to have a media server in which a file can be uploaded or downloaded from the site, in which the server is a link on the site..ex (home, about, Blog, Media) under the media link or page as they call it in wordpress it can either be something that forwards it to a specific media server or if possible the media server in the page. I am unsure what I am going to do still for the media server so please be as detailed as possible, and again the help is greatly appreciated I can use all the help I can get,
