A few weeks ago I noticed that blog posts I schedule in the future aren’t being published at the appointed time. In the Posts section in the back end, it says “Missed Schedule” in red under the blog post that was supposed to be published at a certain time. What is going wrong? I recently updated to 3.5.2 from 3.5.1 and the problem still persists. I am able to go in and manually update the blog post so it gets published after it was scheduled to be published, but why doesn’t it automatically get published anymore, like it is supposed to?

My concern is with the blog at the following URL: https://blog.fishbowlinventory.com/

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Much of that sounds a little beyond my comprehension at this point. I hesitate to remove all of the plugins for fear of breaking anything or losing my settings.

I just updated all of the ones that needed updating after getting your response. It turns out there were several that were old versions. I don’t know if that will resolve the problem, though.

My next blog post is scheduled for Wednesday morning, so I can check it then.

It should be fine but if you really want to be safe (safe is good) then make a full backup of your files and database.

That way if something goes really wrong (it shouldn’t) you can always get back to where you were before you made any changes.

If if you don’t do this at least you’ll have a backup.

There is no magic bullet in these situations. This is just the start of basic troubleshooting and is a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps.

Do you want to locate and, hopefully, fix the problem on your site? If “yes”, then please help us to help you and carry out the changes that we suggest.

I don’t mean to offend. I’m just no tech wizard. I’ll talk to someone who knows this stuff better than I do and try to safely do what you suggested.

Thank you for the suggestion, Jan.

Inventorysystemsoftware, what Esmi suggested was for to try to “deactivate” the plugins. Not to remove it. You just turn them off by deactivating them. Afterwards you activate back one by one.

Also, is anyone visiting your blog? If not you may want to try logging off WordPress and then visiting your own site, so that the scheduled posts may show up.

Good point. Thank you for clarifying that it’s deactivating, not deleting the plugins. That makes sense now.

I don’t know if anyone is visiting my blog right this minute. It’s live, so anyone can visit it. Even if I’m logged off, the scheduled posts don’t appear unless I log back in and then manually update them after they should have been published. Very odd.

Try to schedule one mock post for the next few minutes. Then log off your account and visit your blog to see if the post appears.

Oh, I see what you mean. I’ll definitely do that once I deactivate the plugins. Thank you.

    Try this first!

    Okay, I will. ??

Always try the easiest possible solution first!

It didn’t work. I’m unable to see it when logged out and when I log back in it says Missed Schedule. Looks like it’s time to see if the plugins are to blame.
