FTP Qs

  • Hi everyone,

    I’m very new, and did a quick search but didn’t find what I was looking for.

    A summary of what’s going on: I created a site with iWeb and wasn’t thrilled, so I made another one with WordPress. I’ve created the site in another directory on my host, so my website with my iWeb version is https://www.a1bestservice.com , but my “test” site with WordPress is located at:
    https://www.a1bestservice.com/a1bestservice/

    My question – how can I replace the site I made with iWeb (which is what people see now when they go to https://www.a1bestservice.com) with what I’ve got in the a1bestservice folder? I have an FTP client and if I log into that and just take out what’s in the root directory, then copy everything from the a1bestservice folder, will that do the job? If anyone could give me any insight on this, I would really appreciate it! I’m tempted to just move the files and folders to the root directory with my FTP program, but I don’t want to mess anything up, and would rather not have my site be down for any longer than it needs to be.

    No, do NOT do that.

    Here, read this: “Giving WordPress Its Own Directory“, specifically the “Using a pre-existing subdirectory install” section.

    Great, thanks! I was very hesitant to wipe the root folder clean with FTP, but figured there was a correct way to do what I was looking for. I’ll take a look at the link and see if I can get it taken care of. Thanks again Andrew!

    Actually, the concern I had was you moving the contents of the a1bestservice folder into the root. But you will see what I mean when you read the directions, I think.

    Just a hunch, mind you, but I think you managed to move it successfully. ??

    (Cool site, by the way– like the color and style of it.)
