    More Information:

I found that it only has the failed link when viewing it in my timeline. When someone is viewing it through their recent posts feed, it links perfectly. I’m not sure how FB constructs the links in their app so I thought this info might be useful.

Hi Stuart. I found the same problem. When I share something in my timeline is almost perfect… only the title link doesn’t work and facebook shows me an error with this url: https://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=193048140809145

I tried with several pages and no changes, same problem. I don’t know if the problem is in facebook or in social buttons’ plugins.

Same issue here, and is not exclusive for wordpress plugins, it is happening with all of my Like buttons.

I just got back from a few days of camping in the woods — no WiFi. ??

    Has Facebook fixed the issue?

The Like and Send buttons are very simple — they just send the webpage URL to Facebook. Facebook then comes back to the page and grabs the Open Graph meta tags. If the meta tags look good (see the Validation Tools tab on each Post/Page), then it’s up to Facebook to use them properly. This sounds like it might be a Facebook issue…

Glad you had a chance to disconnect and enjoy some camping!

Still looking the same on mine but other people’s links are working fine.

    My description has special characters:
    (n) – a collection of thoughts about parenting by a Stay-At-Home Dad

I’m wondering if that is throwing it off…

Have a look at the “Validation Tools” tab on the Post or Page — it has a direct link to the Facebook Debugger. That should tell you what Facebook is picking up, and how it’s interpreting it.

You can also do a View Source on the webpage (not in the admin section, obviously), and see the Open Graph meta tags yourself — they’re fairly easy to find with the head section (near the top).

Let me know if the Facebook debugger finds any issues or some text isn’t showing up as expected.

    Thanks,

Hello again. I hadn’t checked that. I found this note:

fb:admins and fb:app_id tags are missing

I just tried adding that on the General>Publisher>Facebook location and cleared my WP cache and got the message again. Is that the correct place to add what I should be and is there another cache I should clear?

    Thanks again for your support.

Yup, that would be where you put them — use one or the other, not both.

Click on the ‘Clear All Cache’ button, or wait 60-180 seconds (depending on cache expiration setting) for the info to appear in the webpages.

If you run another caching plugin, you’ll have to flush that cache as well.

If you have the URL to an example page, I can have a look as well.

    Thanks,

    js.

Found that turned off the FB admins and app_id checkbox in one of my tests and forgot to turn it on. Here’s what I got:

Not Allowed: Object at URL ‘https://www.sahdism.com/2013/07/my-wild-days-are-long-gone/’ of type ‘article’ is invalid because the domain ‘www.sahdism.com’ is not allowed for the specified application id.

I think it’s in my app setup so I need to look there now, yes?

Sorry, I had written that last response but before I sent I had to answer the door and so my message doesn’t apply to what you just wrote.

Looks like it cleared the validation error but still got the app id error when posting on my timeline.

    URL is https://www.sahdism.com

Well, the error is pretty much self-explanatory. You’ll need to update your app domain to “www.sahdism.com” (or create a new app id). ??

“Object at URL ‘https://www.sahdism.com/’ of type ‘website’ is invalid because the domain ‘www.sahdism.com’ is not allowed for the specified application id ‘483532058388946’. You can verify your configured ‘App Domain’ at https://developers.facebook.com/apps/483532058388946.”

Okay, cleared the FB validation errors. At this point, I think I’ll have to tweak my settings.
You had all the needed diagnostic tools there, I just didn’t understand how to use them. Great plugin – thanks!

No problem – glad to help.

Please don’t forget to rate the plugin if you have a few minutes. ??

    Thanks,
