• I’m trying to install a test version of WordPress on my home computer (Windows XP Pro) following tamba2’s tutorial. This tutorial and a podz comment in this forum both say IIS must be stopped for the procedures to work on XP Pro.

How do I stop (and restart) IIS. Should it be stopped every time I work on WP on Xampp?

    Thanks!

  • If you install xampp why do you need IIS? It should be stopped for ever ??
At some MS place there should be some instructions how to stop it.

Your intuition was on the money, moshu. The language of the tutorial implied (to me) that IIS was running and had to be turned off. In fact IIS was not running. You need to select that option during XP install or later if you want it to run. So I was able to install WordPress on Xampp on an XP Pro system with no problem. Thanks.
