• My existing 3 dot some version of wordpress was not auto updating so I decided to do manual update it. I downloaded latest 3.5.2 zip file, unzipped it all and copy pasted it all to my /blog directory.

Now when i access abc.com/blog/wp-admin/upgrade.php it says ‘Database Update Required’, which keeps looping in with success message.

I have tried renaming my current theme to x_text and plugins folder to plugin.hold but nothing have help me.

If i access blog url, i see blank page with no warnings or error

  • It is best to always remove the two folders wp-admin and wp-includes first and then upload new folders from the current unmodified download. These are all you will (should) need. The wp-content folder should not have been overwritten nor root files in a manual upgrade.

Check both wp-config.php and also remove (rename) the .htaccess file.

Are you sure you uploaded the files to the proper folder?

I am pretty sure I have uploaded it in the right folder, should i try removing wp-admin and wp-include and try copy pasting just these two folders again?

I am unclear why you are using the terms “copy/pasting”? What tool are you using to do this?

You should use an FTP Client such as FileZilla or your host provided File Management tool (although these (host tools) can be troublesome and not give proper error notices when a file fails to copy to remote server). I would not drag and drop or copy and paste files to a remote server.

So there was a DB version mismatch in the WP_Options and versions.php which was keeping me in loop. Now I am able to log in as admin, and theme is default, but i still see white screen on the blog website.

I have checked config.php has right values in it. actually theme preview shows it all fine, but on real blog url, it doesnt work and showing me white screen
