    Hi,

the plugin uses already created thumbnails if they’re either set as a featured image or if it can find the thumbnail from the image tag in the post body(from the url or class name). Otherwise it uploads an image and adds it to the library.

If you’re willing to share* your blog url, I can try to figure out why isn’t the plugin using already created thumbnails.

    * if you don’t want to share it publicly, you can contact us at [email protected].

I am having the same problem with multiple copies of the same thumbnail being created and saved in my media library. What is the best way to avoid this?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey!

Try to completely remove that particular image from your media gallery and from your blog post. After that, you can add/upload that image again, and you should not encounter these problems any more.

Either way, do let me know how it goes! I’m eager to find out!

Take care & have a nice weekend ahead!

    Hi,

I am having the same problem with multiple copies of the same thumbnail being created and saved in my media library.

I tried the solution of removing the image and reload but it does not work. Zemananta continued to create redundant copies.

    Original Image in server:
    – image.jpg

    Thumbnails created by the theme:
    – image-150×150.jpg
    – image-270×250.jpg
    – image-300×200.jpg

    Thumbnails created by Related Post:
    – image-300×2001.jpg
    – image-300×2001-270×200.jpg
    – image-300×2001-150×150.jpg

    Is there another solution?

    Thanks!

The only thing I’ve found to keep the plugin from creating multiple thumbnails for one post is to create a custom field in the post (I called mine related_post_thumbnail) and set its value to the URL of the image I want to use in the thumbnail. Then I go back and delete the thumbnails that the plugin created. Unfortunately this would have to be done for every post at some point.

Hey guys, thanks for reaching out, I’ll gladly help!

@desandes — the plugin is only creating a couple of thumbnails, one for the theme you are using and the second copy for the plugin. All in all it shouldn’t be taking up too much of your space, but do let me know if this isn’t the case, since we’ll be more than glad to take another look.

@shandastiles — or you can just change the URL of the images you want to change and keep the whole custom field unchanged forever. That’s because once you set up your settings in the plugin settings (when you choose which value our the Custom Field our plugin should use for the thumbnails), you won’t have to change it again in the future. This way you save yourself a lot of time.

Once you have set this up, you just add a Custom Field with every new post, set the image you want to use for the thumbnail, while the name stays the same. Also worth noting is that you should keep the images you want to use for thumbnails as square as possible and that they’re not too big. The perfect size would be 151×151 pixels (or bigger), but that is not that crucial. Just don’t use the biggest images you can find, because this can return you some problems.

Let me know if you guys have any more questions or if there’s anything else that’s not completely clear, since I’ll be more than glad to help you out!

Take care & have a nice weekend ahead!

    Best,
    Silvo
