    Hello ladies and gents,
I have been trying to find a solution on the internet in the past days without success.
Rss Feed on my wordpress website doesn’t validate. (I checked that at https://validator.w3.org/feed/)

    Here’s the problem:

line 1, column 0: Undefined root element: link
    <link href=”wp-content/themes/custom-child/style.css” rel=”stylesheet” type= …

line 8, column 0: XML parsing error: <unknown>:8:0: junk after document element
    <!DOCTYPE html>

Now if I go and check my rss feed source code it shows that in the very first line there is “<link href=”wp-content/themes/custom-child/style.css” rel=”stylesheet” type= … instead of “<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?>”

I’m wondering why is that. Any idea to solve that?

I am using custom community theme.

    Cheers

  • This issue has been answered many, many, times. Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Twelve theme with all plugins deactivated?

Thank you Esmi! you are everywhere ??
I have read pretty much anything about it and tried to solve it as you said but nothing happened. Majority of the problems is about the blank line. But I think I get another type of error. Is it the same thing?
I am using a child theme if that helps and in the theme section it says “This child theme requires its parent theme, Custom Community.” is this normal?
    cheers

The message is normal but I suspect there is something wrong with your child theme.

I believe I have done every passages to make it in the right way. I have to say that I edited few php files (now stored in my child theme folder) and I have done some css changes within those files. Is it totally wrong?this might be the problem?!…everything seems to work fine except the rss feed…thanks for baring with me

    cheers

yes I can..I still encounter the same issue..

Esmi I believe in you! please fix my problem ??

Can we see the site using using the default Twenty Twelve theme with all plugins deactivated?

    ok here we go https://www.storyscience.co.uk/
please have a look quickly this looks horrible ??

Who has been adding <link href="wp-content/themes/custom-child/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> to WordPress core files?

    (@grandeguglie)

Well, if I did, I didn’t do it on purpose, what can I do now?Can I change it?

All I did regarding the style.ccs is add import@url (‘../custom-community/style.css’); in the style.css
I just put all plugins and my child theme back now ?? thanks for the quick response
    Are we nearly there? ??

Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Sorry this might be a very stupid question, but, can I do all this in local before trying it for the remote website?

    Esmiiiiiiiii
This idea came up to my mind: I searched <link href=”wp-content/themes/custom-child/style.css” rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” /> with “file seek” and found out that this line was in the index.php in my root site folder (I think accidentally pasted in) now rss feed works!!

Thanks a lot for your tips, karma needs to give some positive stuff back to you now ahah ??

Uh another thing, please, as I said before I have added some <style type=”text/css”></style> code on few php.files (like archive.php) in order to change their style, obviosly I put them in my child theme folder…is this the correct thing to do?

    chairs

edit: actually, is it normal that rss feed doesn’t work in my homepage and gets me the same error as before?in other pages works

    (@grandeguglie)

I am sorry if I write again it’s just because my problem is partially solved.

Now online rss feed works ok except for the homepage and contact page.
In those pages the source code still shows <link href=”wp-content/themes/custom-child/style.css” rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” /> on top even though I deleted it from that accidentally edited index.php file.

I reuploaded everything but wp-content in local with no success.

It seems this bloody “link” is still hidden somewhere.

Everytime I realise I solved something I actually did not ??

    Cheers

I absolutely don’t think this is related to it but after deleting some wordpresss plugins folders, stored in my hard disk, and after reinstalling my child theme in LOCAL, it SEEMS that rss feed of all pages of my website started to work again o_O

Thank you emi you have been helpful
