  • Revert to Twenty Twelve theme and see if the error goes away.

What will happen to my genesis & child theme configuration? With this other theme, it will overlay my website? Not technical so worried..

okay, anything i click on from the dashboard menu sends me the error message so I can’t revert to any theme… ??

Use FTP/ cPanel and rename your current theme by adding -old. That will open up your site using WordPress default theme. You can put back your current theme later. All your theme data are stored in your database. So you won’t lose them.

Better backup your site so that you can always restore your current site.

where do i go to do the FTP/Cpanel? I don’t see it anywhere on the dashboard and won’t i just get the error page?

ok, found out that i had to go to cpanel of hosting provider to do this. I did but when i try to display the website, i still get just the error message. website is https://www.familylovevillage.com

Rename the current theme by adding -old so that your site will open using the default theme. Alternatively, contact your theme’s vendor for support as we do not support commercial themes here.

    hello Krishna,

thanks for your guidance. I did what you told me to do and got most of the website back, reinstalled the themes and got most of the site in working order. Just have to do 3 more things and it will be back to state prior to wordpress and genesis updates.

    Again thank you.

I also noticed when upgrading to 1.9.2 that the update process didn’t go smoothly – I was left with an unremoved zip archive and a misnamed directory within wp-content/themes – and so any related child themes failed with the same error you described.

Should it help anyone else, deleting the genesis .zip archive plus another directory named something like genesis.tmp from wp-content/themes (both of which resulted from the update process) – then manually uploading a fresh copy of the new Genesis base theme – was the solution to this.

    @barry

I had to register, just to say THANK YOU for the tip.

I was almost crying after I updated to 1.9.2 after updating 3.5.2 and the whole site died!

“something like genesis.tmp from wp-content/themes (both of which resulted from the update process) – then manually uploading a fresh copy of the new Genesis base theme – was the solution to this.”

The above brought my site back!

    Many thanks,

    M

    Happy to help ??

This is the same solution Barry gave but I got it from Studiopress support with an explanation for anyone who’s interested:

We apologize for any inconvenience that this issue has caused. For a short time a corrupt copy of Genesis was being sent out by our update server which caused an incomplete version of Genesis to be installed for those that used the one click update process during this time.

To correct this problem please follow the following steps.

    1. Download a new copy of Genesis from https://my.studiopress.com
    2. Extract the files to your local computer and note where they are located.
    3. Access your site via FTP and navigate to wp-content/themes
    4. Delete the filegenesis.tmp directory if it exists.
    5. Upload the extracted genesis directory from your local computer to your wp-content/themes directory via FTP.
    6. Visit the Genesis theme settings screen and click save to finalize the update to the latest version of Genesis.

Once this is complete your site should be back online.

would it be safe to update at all? I am on WordPress 3.5.2 but am experiencing errors
