As I am the only person who administers my site, and always from the same location, would it not be feasible to include the option to allow access from only a single ip address (thereby automatically denying access to and locking out all others)?

Also, while I am no programmer, I can only assume that at some point hackers might be able to forge/spoof ip addresses (as spammers already do that with email addresses). So, if the option to allow access to only a single ip address is implemented, would there be a way to mask that ip address so that would-be hackers cannot see it (just like the WordPress version numbers are masked)?

And, thank you for BulletProof Security!

That .htaccess code is currently in the Live testing phase (used on all our sites) and is working with flying colors so far – see link below to implement it on your site. We are now looking at/researching how to automate and implement this in BPS. This phase of the process takes a while to ensure that this code will work correctly in all possible scenarios, conditions, etc.

FYI – it is not possible to hide the WordPress version. Yes, you can do this directly, but there are dozens of ways to get the WordPress version indirectly so actually it is simply not possible to hide the WordPress version. ?? And is not really necessary either. Hackers (crackers really, but everyone uses “hackers” these days) do not even bother to check the WordPress version. ??

Outstanding! Thank you so much for the code and the explanation.

    You rock!
