Moving existing WP site to new domain

I know there is a procedure for doing this elsewhere in this forum, but it occurred to me that there may be an alternative and I’d like to find out from other users if this approach is feasible.

I recently designed a WP site which is up and running at Domain A. It was developed to replace an old HTML site at Domain B. Right now, in order to get the site up and running quickly, I’ve temporarily forwarded Domain B (with masking) to Domain A until I decide how to make the transfer.

My question is this: can I install WP on Domain A, and upload the WP site’s backed-up files to the associated host, change the address in the Dashboard, and do a search and replace for the internal links to change them to point to the new domain? All while maintaining the masked forward to Domain B, and then redirect the address to Domain A when everything is running smoothly?
