[Theme: Mantra] Making header and footer cover entire width

First consider setting up a Child Theme.

Then copy header.php and footer.php and paste them into your Child Theme directory.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have created and activated the child theme and copied the two files.

No I am still stuck. I took the header out of main container and it expanded to full width but now its aligned to the left. I want it to be aligned to the center.

You need to give <div id="masthead"> the same styling as the container:

#masthead {
 width: 1100px;
 margin: 0 auto;
}

Could you tell me how you did? What did you mean by “I took the header out of main container”. I’m not bad on html / css but terrible in php lol
