• I am hoping someone can help me. I want to set up a site with content that I will create and publish myself.

I am looking at both wordpress (and other blogging software) and also phpnuke/mambo type CMS software.

There seems to be a significant cross over of features in these two classes of software.

Can anyone tell me the important differences so that I can make the right decision.

    Thanks

  • wordpress is probably easier. wordpress has a great community. wordpress has extensive documentation. wordpress has too many plugins to count that give the functionality of a cms. wordpress has hundreds and hundreds of themes readily available.

never used php nuke, can’t tell you the pros of that one

I am using WordPress with the CMS from https://www.xoops.org and you have the benefits from both softwares. You can probably find a lot of plugins for what you need here but if you need a forum I think a CMS would be a better choice.
You can view the xoops wordpress module in action here:

Honestly it depends on what you’re looking to do. If it’s just a simple web site with a few static pages, then WordPress will get the job done. If not, I’d take a look at Joomla. If you are more technically skilled, I’d probably go with Drupal. Drupal is probably the most flexible with what it can do, but that flexibility comes at a cost of complexity.
