I’m using the Styles plugin with Twenty Eleven to try to modify the background color of the search form in the menu bar. Every time I change the settings and then save, it reverts back to the default color (gray) for the Twenty Eleven theme. I want my search form background to be white.

Anyone know why this plugin seems to be failing?

    Thanks!

Are you running styles-twentyeleven version 1.0.1?

Can you link me to the site where you are seeing the issue? This is working okay on my testing site, so I’d like to check and see if you have other settings or plugins that are conflicting with what Styles is outputting.

Please make sure that you’ve set a background color for Search Form before you share the link!

    Thanks for responding, Paul.

    I am running version 1.0.1.

    The website is here: https://www.mailers-assist.com/

I’ve set the background color for search form to white and the border to the same blue as the menu bar, but those settings are not holding. The only search form setting that holds for me is the font color, which I was able to successfully change from white to black.

The plugin has worked for everything else I’ve used it for so far. I appreciate your time!

Whoops! Now, when I go to the site from the link above, I see that the settings for the menu bar color and the footer area have also disappeared (I had made them blue), so I take back what I said about the plugin working for those things. Help?!

Looking at the code of your site (without being able to log-in), it looks like nothing is outputting from Styles at all. Are Styles and Styles: TwentyEleven both active on your site right now?

Are you comfortable creating a temporary admin user so I can look in your admin? If so, please don’t post it in the public forum —?email it to styles (at) brainstormmedia.com

If that’s not an option, can you tell me what plugins you have active? Any caching plugins?

    Hi Paul:

I just emailed you a temp admin username and password for the site. Let me know if there’s anything else you need. Thank you!

Thanks artfuljammer. I got your info and should be able to take a close look this evening.

    Hi artfuljammer,

I tested out the search field background, menu background, and footer on your site. Thank you for providing access! This is what I found.

    Search Form Background
Your search form has a slightly different position and code format than I have seen on TwentyEleven in the past. I modified you version of Styles: TwentyEleven to account for this, so it is working now.

I would like to release this fix in an update to everyone, but it would be helpful for me to know —?do you know how you got your search form to appear in your menu bar like that? I have usually seen it in the header or sidebar, like this.

Depending on whether you got it there with a setting, custom code, or modifying the template, I will have different ways I can release an update for users doing similar things.

    Menu and Footer background
I was able to set these to blue like you described. I did notice that when I set the colors and saved, it would take a few minutes for your live site to update with the new changes.

It took a a while to realize this, because settings always seemed one or two changes behind. Eventually I realized it was just a time lag. My best guess is that Bluehost is running a cache to keep your site running fast. My expectation is that if you save your settings, then give it a few minutes, your live site will update shortly.

    Disappearing settings
When I logged in, I saw that you had Styles: TwentyEleven installed, but not Styles. Both have to be installed an active for the changes to show up. I will add a notice for this case in an update.

Thank you for taking the time to report your issue so we could get this resolved!

Thank you so much for taking the time to investigate these issues, Paul.

    Search Form Background

When I installed TwentyEleven, the search form appeared in the menu bar. I didn’t do anything to change its position. In fact, I would have been quite happy to have it above the banner, as on the example you provided.

    Menu and Footer Background

Thanks for alerting me to the time lag. This will keep me from doing and undoing changes in frustration. I’ll make my changes and be patient, then see if they stick.

    Disappearing Settings

You know, I did have both Styles and Styles: TwentyEleven installed and activated, but then I deleted Styles because I thought running both might be the problem. A notice for this would be helpful.

    Grateful!

Thanks for the input, artfuljammer! I just noticed that I didn’t follow-up on this, but for anyone coming by, it may be useful to know that a notice has been added for the case you mentioned: if a user installs a plugin like Styles: TwentyEleven, but doesn’t have Styles installed or activated, they will get a notice and a link to quickly install and activate. ??
