• Hi guys,
Friend gave me a theme called “LightBright”, I uploaded and installed it. My blog went offline completely. Now get a 500 error and cannot even access the /wp-admin page either to log in and delete the theme.

    Blog is totally offline.

Address is https://www.russhowepti.com and I have got no clue what to do. Total beginner with codes, plugins, all that stuff. Had a nice little fitness blog until I installed this theme and it just all went offline in a second….?

  • Try switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

I honestly wish I knew what that meant.

I have located the current theme LightBright in my FTP account ?? Added “-old” after it and the website now comes up with a blank white screen instead of an error message.

Could I just delete the LightBright theme from my files from in my FTP account and then it would default back to a basic theme?

Re-upload a fresh, unpacked, copy of the Twenty Twelve folder to wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

Trying to do this. But if I upload the zipped folder, it just downloads when I click it, and if I try to unzip the folder then select it to upload, it simply opens the folder instead of uploading it..?

    Unzip it first then…

I have unzipped it on my computer. When I click ‘upload’ on the 2012 file it just opens up the file and shows the contents, rather than uploading it.

Do you know how to use FTP?

I see..well then you are using the web admin interface and not an FTP client…yes?

No, complete newbie to codes and all this stuff, just trying to get my blog back up like it was before I installed that last theme. This is the first time I have ever logged in to FTP.

I’m logged into CPanel, then into File Manager. Can see the files on my site in there. Hopefully in the right place?

But you have FTP software installed, yes? You used it to re-name your old theme’s folder.

I did that from inside file manager inside my cpanel.

Then you can upload the unpacked, copy of the Twenty Twelve folder to wp-content/themes using the same file manager.

It won’t seem to let me upload it. Clicked upload file, located the file, clicked on the twentytwelve file and it’s just opening the file and showing the contents of it rather than selecting it for upload
