WordPress pages list seems confused (not displaying)

OK so I have a WP blog on our server and this morning the client told me her pages have disappeared.
I took a look and see that the server obviously still has the pages but it seems confused…

In the ‘pages’ panel:
If you ask it to show published; it lists them AOK
If you ask for ‘ALL’ it has nothing (but does display the number of pages).

A similar post in support suggested a few issues to do with Permalinks and the .htaccess file…
I’ve tried removing the .htaccess and replacing it with a default.
I’ve tried changing permalinks to default too but no joy.
I’ve done the wordpress re-install – no joy
I’ve tried a default classic theme and the pages then display on the homepage but still the same issue persisted in the WP pages admin panel.

Anyone got an idea where I should go next?
