• Hello, everyone

I’ve been given the task of running my workplace’s WordPress page.
So, my intention was to make a copy of the page & run it on a local host so I can play around with it and get used to how WordPress works.

I downloaded, installed & configured XAMMP and WordPress 3.5.1 and everything looked to be fine – I just needed to import the old site…

So I retrieved the files from the currently hosted site (WordPress 2.9) via FileZilla, and put those in the relevant folders, locally.

After which, I performed an SQL export of the old site via phpmyadmin, and then imported it into the locally hosted site, again via phpmyadmin.

But upon loading wordpress up again, all the pages appear to be imported, but the DashBoard is now showing version 2.9 instead of 3.5.1!
Strangely enough, the Dashboard also says I’m using version 3.5.1, but I’m definitely missing a ton of functionality here.

I’ve double checked all the config files, and everything looks to be pointing in the right place; but as I’m new to all this, I’ve more than likely missed something somewhere.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

  • Remove the local install and then see Moving_WordPress. You will need to start by installing WordPress 2.9 initially and then upgrade via a series of small steps (see Upgrading_WordPress_Extended for the full details). Or install 3.5.1 locally and use Tools -> Export on the remote site to create an .xml file that you can use to import content into the local install.
