• New blogger…I’m getting the following error when I attempt to upload an image to a post:

Unable to create directory /hsphere/local/home2/folder/”nameofblog”/wp-content/uploads/2006/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Not sure what I’m doing wrong?

  • you need to CHMOD it to “777” – so it can be writable …

your FTP client should be abel to do this .. if not use SMARTFTP – https://www.smartftp.com

Just to clarify: the parent directory is wp-content – that’s the one you should make writable.

To clarify…I need to CHMOD the “wp-content” folder to 777? Currently the settings are 755…do I need to leave the settings at 777 or change back to 755 after saving.

When that is done, should I then create an “images” folder in “wp-content” to store my images?

    Yes, 777 for wp-content.
WP will create the rest of the folders needed for upload.
Additionally, in Options > Misc you can define what the upload path should be. Either what is the default or creating your own dir and putting it in the path.
If you want to upload images all the time – it should stay 777. (I know, it is not safe, but the devs say it is OK…)
If you change it back to 755 – you will get error again when uploading.
