Comments disappear and reappear

  • Please, someone advise me. This is such a strange problem. I have installed two different comment plugins. The one that comes with Mantra, and now the Disqus Comments plugin. Both plugins react the same way. The comment section appears under each post, and minutes later disappears, then may reappear at any time, an hour or days later. What would cause this behavior? It doesn’t seem to be a problem with the plugins, so what could it possibly be? The Mantra program itself? Or WordPress? I’ve tried other computers with different servers and the problem is the same – comments appear and disappear periodically. They never seem to stay on as long as they stay off. Any ideas? Anyone? Please?

  • Hi.

    Mantra does not come with any comment plugin. The default comment system is handled by WordPress.

    Try switching to one of the Twenty-something themes for a couple of minutes and see if the same issue occurs. We first need to figure if this is theme or plugin/Wordpress related.

    Hi,
    Thank you for helping! Ok, I switched to BB press (Twenty Ten), and the comments section after each post is missing. Waiting a few minutes and checked again. No change. So what does this show?

    Oh, I see there is a small Leave a Comment button, after a listing of all the categories and tags. When I click on it, it opens the comments section for every post. So does that show what the problem is?

    What do you mean by BB press? Try switching to twentytwelve with ALL plugins deactivated.

    I see in category listings you’ve turned off the Meta bar. That means you will not be able to see the “No Comments / X Comments / Comments are Off” buttons for each post which is inside the meta bar.

    And on the post themselves I see you’re using the Disqus plugin which works fine.

    I don’t see any comment form on pages, so they’re probably turned off (individually) for pages.

    Sorry, I am not sure where that is – the meta bar under category listings… can’t find it.

    I have disabled disqus because I didn’t care for the requirement to leave name and email address, and activated the WP Comment Master which has the pagination. I checked each post twice, and allow comments are checked. Also allowed under Discussion.

    The “Meta Bar” option under “Post Information Settings” controls all the post information options above it. If you set that to hide, everything above it set to show will also be hidden, including the “Post Comments Link”

    I am hopeless. I cannot find the Post Information Settings. Where on earth are they? I went through all of the settings and could not find it.

    Ok, I finally found it – under Mantra Settings. Changed Meta to SHOW. Now the comments show under individual posts clicked on from the sidebar, but comments do not show up when Recent Posts or Popular Posts from the top section are clicked. Any suggestions?
