• Hello,

I am using Arrass wordpress theme on my blog (inspirefusion.com). It has option to set “Featured Image”, of the size 140×140 pixels.

I make thumbnails of size 140×140 in Photoshop and upload to set as featured images, but I recently noticed that each time I upload a thumbnail another file is created automatically of the same size 140×140.

For examples, for the latest blog post I uploaded this thumbnail

    https://www.inspirefusion.com/wp-content/uploads/baguetting.jpg

But the system automatically created this file and showing it on homepage

    https://www.inspirefusion.com/wp-content/uploads/baguetting-140×140.jpg

It was all fine before, the system didn’t use to create extra file and showing the same file on homepage which I uploaded.

Can anyone please help me how to stop the system creating extra files?

^ Hello David, thanks for the link to great article but I don’t think my issue is because of the “media image sizes”.

When I upload images to the posts they are not re-generated in different sizes. The only images that are re-generated are the featured images, and they are generated in the same size which I have set in theme option.

    Hope you understand?

One more thing, when I upload 139×139 pixels image the system doesn’t re-generate it. It is re-generating files only when they are 140×140 or higher pixels in size.

I thought I should tell you this to make you more clear?

What if you set the featured image size to 141×141, then upload your 140×140 images? Kind of a hack, but may avoid the duplicate file creation.

Yayyy I got an idea and it is working… so far ??

    1. I first set the thumbnails size on Arrass theme options to 141×141 pixels… saved it.

    2. Then upload new image file (140×140) and set it as featured image.

    3. Published the post

    4. Set the thumbnails size on Arrass theme back to 140×140.

The system didn’t generate new file this way ??

It might look silly solution but worked for me and I am happy cause I don’t know the backend coding so it is difficult for me to disturb the codes and mess my site ??

Thanks for the tip @graphicgeek ??

Glad you’ve found the solution and thanks for sharing.
