RSS won't open in separate page AFTER member login

We have a membership site. Our homepage looks pretty much the same whether you’ve logged in or not. But before you log in to our site, you can see RSS links in the right sidebar. If you click on one of the links, it opens into a separate page. However, the minute you log in, then you still see the RSS links but the links now open into the same page instead of a separate one.

I’ve tried the “target=_blank” as well as the “rel=’external'” code. Neither works after login. What I can’t figure out is, once I’ve logged in, why there is any change in how it processes the links and where can I find that change in the code.
