• I’m a complete WordPress newbie. I’m hoping for some advice on whether WordPress is right for a site idea I have in mind, and if so, what is the best way to organize it.

I’d like to start a site for writing prompts. Basically, it will work like this:

    – A user posts a writing prompt.
    – Authors post their stories in response to the prompt
    – Each author can receive comments and ratings on their individual story

My first thought was to make each prompt a category, and allow authors to post their stories to that category. However, it seems like the categories would add up very quickly (and possibly be overkill).

Is there a better way to handle this sort of setup? I greatly appreciate any advice or guidance you can offer.

  • As far as I know, there is no logical limit to the number of categories you can have. You might want to create annual categories (2013, 2014, etc.) that each category could go into, so that you could better control their organization in a menu, if you choose to organize them this way.

How many categories/prompts were you planning on having per month or week (or day)?

This sounds like an interesting concept and a different application of WordPress. When you get this running, please let me know.

Thanks for your suggestions and feedback! ??

I’m not really sure how many prompts we’ll end up with yet — we’re more in the “research to see if it’s possible” stage. I expect we’ll start out with daily, and depending on feedback and traffic, adjust from there.

Once we get this up and running, I’ll definitely post back and let you know. ??
