WordPress move to new server

  • Basically, I’m just in the process of moving a WordPress website from my old server to my new server.

    Backed up old website and DB then recreated new user through directadmin, with exact same credentials and same specs/versions/software/etc on new and old servers.

    My last server was running the with website with it owned by the user:group of the account, but now I have moved it to the new server it will only run it if it is owned by root (the group makes no difference)

    Either I’ve missed something obvious or just trying to find a hard answer for a simple question, but any suggestions welcomed. ??

    Also, what risks are they from leaving a wordpress site run when owned by root? :-\
