Any alternative to the way WP reports comment form errors to users?

When a user forgets to fill in a required field in a comments form the way the error feedback is given (a new page with a non-user friendly error message) seems very primitive to me.

Is it possible to incorporate inline-error reporting into the WP comments form?

I don’t want users to see that new page with the non-firendly error message. I need a message to appear withing the form itself. This is common in modern ajax-driven html forms, but I wonder if there is a way to change the WP comments form so it behaves in this way.
