Not working in Safari 6?

I tried using wp-webp with WebP images generated from Pixelmater 2.2. I upload the image to be used as background picture of the theme (twenty-twelve), but it won’t show.
Any thoughts on why this might be? Using Safari 6.0.4 on OS/X 10.8.3.
