• I had WP with bbPress installed. While he brought over the db from another program and I configured, I replaced index.php with an “under construction” warning. I renamed the original to old_index.php.

    Sounds simple, right?

    I can log into my Dashboard and bbPress Dashboard, the site is dead. ANY page I go to is index.php though the URL is correct in the browser bar.

    Here is my index page:

    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <META NAME="GENERATOR" Content="Microsoft DHTML Editing Control">
    <TITLE></TITLE>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <H1 align=center> Site Name</H1>
    <H1 align=center>UNDER RE-CONSTRUCTION<BR><BR></H1>
    <H1 align=center>Brand-new format coming soon.? </H1>
    <H1 align=center>Check back daily as the new site will be live very
    soon!!</H1>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>

    No forward or redirect code. I can’t view my site at all, so can’t edit the sidebar order of items as I want to see how it looks. I’m sort-of locked out.

    My guy doing this claims he CAN see them from the Dashboard.

    Someone PLEASE tell me/us how to fix this. The site is adult and I won’t publicly post the URL

  • Revert back to the old index.php file from WordPress. That’s important.

    There are several “Under Construction” plugins available.

    The code posted by you says that the site is UNDER RE-CONSTRUCTION. Don’t you see even that? Who put it up there? Possibly your host?

    I will look for a plugin, thanks, and post if it fixes it

    The new index page was done by me. I said that in my initial post. The site isn’t open.

    But why am I redirected when logged in?

    I activated underConstruction plugin after configuring.. If I give wrong info on login, it just redirects back to the login page.

    The WP login page is for admins only. Users login via bbPress on the home page

    I NEED an UNDER CONSTRUCTION plugin that works. Suggestions?

    Thanks. Will go install now then post

    That’s the one I tried. I don’t want them to see a login page, JUST under construction.

    If you change the index page to your own, see above.

    I went to the page you gave but need to know which does what I need.

    I only m online 90 min a day so can’t install, test, remove every day. Meanwhile, spammers are signing up and I have to remove then ban

    What about this?

    Read the description first. Use it if only it suits you.
    I am sorry, I don’t have any other suggestions, excepting taking down the entire site and putting up a single page, more or less as you did.

    The problem is each plugin apparently works under /wp-something. The index.php is under .com, so the .com shows, not the plugin.

    I wonder — I could change the site URL to .com/comingsoon … in the settings. Would that work? I mean I’d create /comingsoon and create index.html with my msg

    I’m off to try!

    **** I broke the site. 500 error. I can’t get into admin as it goes to /comingsoon which i deleted. I put it back but it goes to comingsoon/wp-login

    HOW do I edit the general area without much trouble?
