Problems Setting Permalinks to /%postname%/

    I am really sorry that I am posting this as there are TONS of posts on this but I have been fighting this issue for days and nothing has helped me fix it.

    My Setup:
    I am hosting my own site on Ubuntu Server, LAMP.
    Wordpress Address (URL) : https://mysite.com/wordpress
    Site Address (URL) : https://mysite.com/
    I can get to my site with https://mysite.com/ just fine and everything works.
    I don’t have any content yet.

    What I am trying to do:
    I want the url for the sample page to be https://mysite.com/sample-page instead of https://mysite.com/?page_id=2

    I am pretty sure mod_rewrite is enabled and here are the contents of my /etc/apache2/sites-available/default file.

  • What are the contents of the .htaccess file in the directory

    I followed this guide here so I have two .htaccess. If this isn’t correct let me know.

    Which directory is is the WordPress index.php file located in?

    There are two of those as well. Both in /var/www/.htaccess and /var/www/wordpress/.htaccess

    I was able to resolve this myself. For anyone else who has their WordPress install located in /var/www/wordpress and their site URL set to https://mysite.com (preventing the url including ‘/wordpress’) here are all of my settings. I don’t know if these changes are all required, but it is working and I am going to stop touching it before it breaks.
