High Resolution Devices, Linking to SmugMug

Alright so im setting up my photography blog and i need to link to my SmugMug account. I was going to have a normal blog on the homepage where you could click the image and it would take you the same pic on my smugmug account.

First off, i was just putting a link from smugmug right into the wp post and the image would show up. The problem is that is wasn’t retina compatible, which is important to me.

So my second strategy was to upload the same image to wp and link to to the same photo on my smugmug page. This way i could use the retina 2x plugin so my images would be retina compatible on both sites. My issues with this is that it is an extra step. And also there are more pc’s coming out with retina quality monitors, and i want my photos to look there best on all devices in the near future.

Also should i upload the photos to wordpress as large as possible (somewhere over 2000px) and then choose the 600px size, could that slow down the load time.

Any feedback, advice, links, plugins would be appreciated.
