.htaccess file locks public pages

  • I added the .htaccess file in the WP admin folder as instructed.

    It successfully created a second login to get to the WP CMS Admin page.

    However, I worryingly just found from a customer that they were locked out of two of my public pages.

    I hadn’t noticed as I’m usually logged in. But I tested it and she was correct.

    For two pages you were required to submit the htaccess credentials to view the pages.

    Both of these accessed content from outside of the wordpress install. One from an external mysql server via Xdata plugin, and the other from a folder in my domain, outside the WP install via an iFrame.

    thank you for showing interest in our plugin. However, the issue you have is not generated by our plugin, because we do not “secure” the wp-admin area with an .htaccess file, thus you should better check first if you don’t have other plugins like BulletProof Security that actually create .htaccess files in wp-admin directory (and sometimes generating issues like yours).

    Yes I know it’s not your plugin. But it does happen as a direct result of doing what your instructions tell me to do.

    I was hoping you could suggest why it might happen based on previous users experiences.

    I don’t have anything else that is using an htaccess file in that location.
