href and php

I had a link that called a html file. Now that has been changed to another with a php extenssion and it does not work. Is it not possible to link to a php file?

e.g.<p> <a href="Pinto/form.php">Register</a> </p>

is it ok to rename the file form.html without doing anything else in the file itself?
