• We have been using the BackUpWordPress plugin on our WordPress site before migrating to GoDaddy this week.

Everything else seems to be working fine, with the exception of this plugin. We are presented with this error/instruction:

BackUpWordPress is almost ready. The backups directory can’t be created because your wp-content directory isn’t writable, run chown test3501:inetuser /home/goingove/public_html/wp-content/uploads or chmod 777 /home/goingove/public_html/wp-content/uploads or create the folder yourself.

I have deactivated/reactivated the plugin and deleted/re-installed it, neither of which makes any difference.

There has been a suggestion I need to move the WordPress install or change the value of the absolute path.

I have the value of the absolute path but don’t know where to make the change.

    Any ideas?

  • if you are familar with a ftp client you can log into your account and create an “uploads” folder within wp-content and set the chmods to 777
(depends on your client -> right click > settings > permissions or something similar)

the godaddy support should also be able to solve this within minutes.
WordPress does not need to be moved anywhere.
This is only a folder permission problem. no big deal ??

    Thanks Gerald.

I have changed the permissions to wp_content/uploads via Filezilla but it has made no difference.

I have asked GoDaddy support to help with this and got the following response:

We are unable to support third party application issues and we do not support the inner functionality of WordPress. If you are having difficulty using a third party product, we can help troubleshoot that process to the point that we find that the issue lies entirely within the configuration of that product. You may wish to consult with a community forum online.

I have sent them your recommendations and asked them to confirm wp_content/uploads chmod is set to 777.

    Any more ideas?

another idea would be to use a different backup plugin which is able to send the backup file via email.

    but for your current plugin:
if you got this folder: wp-content/uploads and set it to chmod 777 the plugin will work properly.
