• Hey there,

I’m desperate. In the settings I have chosen that my permalinks are site.com/postname, and it always worked as intended, but now I’ve noticed that in a specific post from yesterday, it has removed 2 of the words from the title (“new” and “looks”). I’ve tried changing the permalink manually but it keeps on deleting these two words. I’ve tried changing the whole title to anything else but using “new” and “looks” and it keeps on deleting the words on the permalink.

The site in on Spanish and the title of the post is in Spanish but these two words are (and have to be) in English.

I’ve tried this in 3 completely different sites I run and the same thing happens in all of them.

The title is: “Gorra plana New Era para looks urbanos”
    The permalink is: /gorras-planas-era-para-urbanos/

And now matter what I do, I can’t have “new” and “looks” in the permalink. Why is this? Seriously, I really need to fix this asap for right SEO and I can’t change the “New” word as it’s part of a brand name which can’t be translated.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Do you have a Page, Post, Tag, or Category with the slugs of new or looks? Are you using a plugin that bans certain words from them? Is this just this post? Have you actually set your custom permalink settings to /%postname%/? Have you tested with all plugins deactivated? Are you using an SEO plugin that ‘sanitizes’ the slug (removes short common words which are ignored by search engines anyway)? Have tried a new test post using same words?

I finally found where the problem was.

SEO Ultimate was causing it. I had to deactive it, change the permalink, create a redirection and reactive the plugin.

Any idea of why was the plugin deleting these words? I didn’t add a filter to them or anything. How to solve it? Maybe it’s what you said about the SEO plugin “sanitizing” the slug… But “new” or “look” seem like useful words to me to index…

Now that I changed the URL and redirected the old one to the new one, I lost all the likes, tweets, +1s and pins linked to that post… Any way of solving it? I guess I’ll have to sort it out myself or forget about it.

    Thanks for your help!

I would just leave the slug minus the words that are too generic to be useful in search.
