New header for page template?

Hi,

I’m wanting the header on my front-page template to have a slightly different look to the one in the default template, so…

I copied the header file, made the amendment and saved it into my child theme folder as header2.

I then created a folder within my child theme called page-templates and copied in the twenty twelve front-page template. Within this file, I altered the code from get_header to get_header2.

Unsurprisingly, due no doubt to my limited PHP knowledge, this didn’t work, and when I select the front page template, I am now just greeted with a blank page.

So, could anybody help with this query? Am I along the right lines or well off the mark?
