  • Did your try alternative methods such as uploading an HTML file to your server which is by far the easiest and the least troublesome?

I didn’t know where to upload the HTML verification file.

I tried putting it on my Home page as well as on my About page since I see <head> at the beginning of all the code.

Google had instructed to look for <head> or <header>, and said it is supposed to be on the Home page, but those words are on the top of my About page.

Do you have a file named header.php (go to dashboard > appearance > Editor). If so open it and look for the <head> and insert the Google verification code between <head> and </head>, or if you don’t find </head>, just after the opening <head>.

To upload an HTML file, sign in to your hosting account and upload it to your root directory.

After doing any of the steps above, click on the verify button at your Google Webmaster Tools account.

I’m having the same problem. My site will not verify with this plugin.

I have also added the meta tag to my header.php file in my theme and it still won’t verify. I have also uploaded the html file to my root directory via FTP and still will not verify.

    Now what?

With help from a YouTube video, I finally got it to verify
