remove site title

I added a banner to the header but the site title and tag line are shown over the banner.. I know i can simply remove the tittle and tag from the general settings, but this will also remove the name on the Tab which makes it look pretty ugly.. Any ideas on how to remove this from the header but at the same time leave the tab with its title? any help will be much appreciated! thanks
