• Hello!

I was on BING Webmaster tools and looked at their SEO analyzer. It came back with this:

The <img> tag does not have an ALT attribute defined.

What does this mean and how do I fix it?

It also has this: “There are multiple descriptions on the page.”—don’t understand why that one comes up either but am more concerned with the first one. Any help would be greatly appreciated! ??

    Thanks!

  • Imagine that . . . I found this by just using Bing.

Ok, well I should not have asked the “what does this mean” question and only asked the “how do I fix it” question. Because I had read that before and I do know what alternate text is. However, I am not sure how to add that code, where to put it ect. I am not a coder, which I should have mentioned too and would like to avoid messing anything up.

They also have an example of where you can put the alt text.

    Like this, <img src=”ThePathToYourImage” width=”255″ height=”255″ alt=”ThisIsWhereItGoes” />

I just use short alts. Some use a very long explanation of what the image is. Some don’t use them at all which will show up as a validation error but isn’t a big deal.

It’s not a big deal for SEO, right.
Although it’s worth considering for accessibility https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10/#gl-provide-equivalents

@zedler815, unless you’re using a static template, you’ll probably have to fish around in PHP files of a Child Theme. If you’re not familiar with PHP, you may be better suited hiring someone to do the work for you.

The alt tag helps the spyder crawl the page more accurately. You should use the alt tag even though independently it doesn’t count as much but overall it helps the SEO.
