    Hi Caroline!

Thank you so much for creating a beautiful theme! Spun is really great, although it’s a steep learning curve for me.

My question is really basic: I was just wondering how to edit the home page with the circles? Right now it just shows up with one circle and the header bar with pages I’ve created. I’d like to be able to upload photos and change the text within the circles…and not to mention add more circles besides just the one!

I’ve been reading through the forum and haven’t found this fundamental question yet. Your help is much appreciated! And again, great job!

    Cath

Hi Cath, thanks! To build out the home page, create more Posts (and assign Featured Images to them to show pictures in the circles).

Thanks Caroline! That helps. I’ve actually converted each circle/”post” into a page, so it’s more like a website instead of a blog. Now I’m trying to embed a blog in just one of those pages. Any idea how to do that?

When I try to change the front page to a static page in Settings > Reading, the main theme page with all the circles disappears.

Conversely, when I try to assign my posts page to a certain page I’ve created, it only reverts back to the main theme page with all the circles.

Any intuition of what I could be doing wrong?

Thank you so much for your help! I’m really impressed with this theme, but I’m just learning as I go.

This is probably because you’ve told what is normally the blog to display pages instead of posts. It won’t display posts because you’ve told it to do something else.

So you probably need to make a custom page template that does a new query to display Posts. But I’m not sure how that will work, if you’re already using query_posts to rewrite The Loop to display Pages… it may not work.

You could reverse the changes and create a new page template that displays Pages, styling it similarly to the theme’s home page, then setting it as the home page under Settings -> Reading. You’d want to use WP_Query instead of query_posts within this page template, since that’s generally considered a better method for creating new loops.

This is definitely an advanced customization with a steep learning curve — above my ability to simply tell you how to do all this off the top of my head. ?? It’s possible someone else will volunteer some code samples, though, and I encourage you to experiment with it. Feel free to post back here when you come up with a solid solution. Good luck!

    Hello!
I was really drawn to how beautifully simple the Spun theme is. Thank you for it!

I’m still trying to figure it out how to change things. I was wondering if there was any way to change the “home” page name to something other than “home”

    thank you!

You can create a custom menu under Appearance -> Menus, add a link to your home page, and call it whatever you like.

    Hi Caroline,

I love this theme, it is so cool and accessible…exactly what I need. I have a rookie question though – I am going to ask anyway as I am pretty desperate.

When I upload the theme, it just shows code on the ‘Homepage Example’…I thought I would just need to upload then add content/ posts/pages, then publish and everything would just show up on the homepage!…I am confused and not very clued up with all this stuff. ?? The last time I uploaded a theme I t just went into Theme options and did everything…now it seems there is some kind of coding involved?!?!

    Eeek.:-(

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Kam

Hi Kam. Can you post your own topic with a link to your site so we can see the problem? Thanks.
