In other words, what happens to the uploaded content when the plugin is deactivated or removed? The competing media uploader plugin for buddypress uses shortcode… and recently when deactivating it, noticed that is was set up in a way to lock in anyone who used it, because when deactivated it no longer displays any of the thousands of uploads – it only shows the proprietary shortcode!

We used to do that long, long ago in the initial versions. For a lot of practical purposes, the shortcode method has a lot of advantages.

However, a conversation with BuddyPress core team, convinced us to go the more complicated way. Why don’t you deactivate BuddyPress Media and see for yourself.

Also, while the features will go away after deactivation, the media won’t! Check out the WordPress Media Gallery on the Dashboard while the plugin is active/inactive.

Now, in case you are talking about BuddyPress Activity Plus, an importer is in our roadmap and we’ll release it soon.
