    I noticed there is a previous post with this problem that shows as ‘resolved’. But I don’t believe it is so I’m reposting a new thread here:

    This happened to me twice:

    1. Even though plugin is still activated, Eazyest Gallery disappears from Dashboard ‘main menu’ (where you’d select albums)

    2. Folder ‘gallery’ is deleted together with all its contents (where the album folders and images are saved) – in my case around 375 images

    3. In plug-in settings it declares you have to create the folder ‘gallery’ as if you’ve just installed plugin and have to start from scratch.

    4. With ftp, I can see the ‘gallery’ folder is no longer there (deleted by whom? how?)

    The first time I thought perhaps I had done something wrong. So I went on to re-install gallery folder again and re-upload all of the images (painstakingly so, as many of the captions have to be manually inserted).

    This was three days ago, on the 20th. And today the 23rd they’ve disappeared again.

    I’ve been with my host provider long enough…images and folders have never gone missing before…

    It also happened around the same time in both cases…between 15:30 and 16:30 GMT.

    Just in case, I’ve created a folder named test and placed it under wp-contents/
    if it spontaneously deletes in three days time, then perhaps it might just be something unrelated to plugin (but somehow I doubt it)

    Within Eazyest Gallery Settings

    I’ve clicked ‘Create’ folder ‘gallery’ again in settings and it’s telling me ‘The slug you selected cannot be used’ (i.e. wp-content/gallery/)

    though it has created folder ‘gallery’ in wp-content….
    I’ve selected my options, clicked ‘Save Changes’, and again it states in red box, “The slug you selected cannot be used”

    I’m now going to copy album folders from backup and see what happens

    I’ve uploaded one of the album folders from my back with ftp in newly created ‘gallery’ folder….finished uploading.

    Album folder shows up in Easyest Gallery, BUT with new id page number…

    …and now they are all deleting in front of my very eyes!

    Image files stopped deleting in front of my eyes once I quit Dreamweaver (CS4).

    When I reopened Dreamweaver, only files left in gallery were the ones at the exact point I had quit Dreamweaver….they were deleting themselves from ‘oldest’.

    As a test, I am now re-uploading images into album and then quitting Dreamweaver right after…

    I finished uploading images back into album folder in gallery folder.
    I quit Dreamweaver
    I’m now in Easyest Gallery settings and it’s saying I have ‘424’ images in album folder?! I refreshed page, and now it show correct number (139)

    All captions and descriptions are lost (I imagine if there were any comments, those would have been lost as well)

    Now Image order (A-Z ascending) shows order of images correctly within Album folder in Dashboard, but shows as quasi random order on Frontend page.

    This is a serious problem.
    Is it when you open your gallery in Dreamweaver the gallery gets deleted, or is it any other thing you have changed before it started to delete folders images?

    I have made an extra check in the script. Could you please try if it happens with trunk version?

    Well, not sure I had Dreamweaver open when it happened the first time…

    – I had uploaded images first time around the 15th March, and they ‘disappeared’ on the 20th…

    – I uploaded them again, and they were deleted a second time today around 16:00…

    – I uploaded images from backup today, and saw them being deleted, this time in front of my eyes…around 18:00…

    I might have had Dreamweaver open on all occasions (as I was making changes and updating the style.css in the Child theme for Twenty Twelve), but I wasn’t really conscious of it possibly having a part until the third time images were ‘disappearing’…

    Can’t make connection to anything I was doing in particular, because there were 300+ images (they take time to delete)…and I only noticed they were gone once folder was deleted and hence ‘Easyest Gallery’ disappeared from Dashboard menu…

    I’m going to leave it now…I’ve uploaded one album folder contents and give it a few days to see what happens…

    I have made extra checks in the script against deleting directories when it should not happen.

    Plugin Author Marcel Brinkkemper

    (@macbrink)

    I have included the extra checks in 0.1.0-RC-9

    Two weeks ago I built a new site for a client using Easyest Gallery and today I had this same issue running 0.1.0-RC-12. I initially started with Lazyest Gallery, then upgraded to Easyest RC 6 and finally all the way up till 12.

    The Problem: The wp-content/gallery folder has somehow been deleted thus causing Easyest Gallery to act as if it hasn’t been configured.

    The Temporary Fix:I was able to fix the problem by using ftp and recreating the gallery folder and subfolder with images. Sadly, my client had added 40+ photos since my last backup, so those are gone for good.

    My Experience: When I first installed Easyest on localhost I tried to create the wp-content/gallery directory from inside the settings menu of the plugin and had a read/write problem. I cannot recall if I was prompt or if I just assume it was a r/w error, but my solution was to manually create the directory, which I did.

    From there, I uploaded ~50+ pictures to Easyest. The next day, I went on my localhost site and the photos were gone. Which is odd, so I restored from a backup (Yay for being OCD) and continued developing waiting for it to happen again. It didn’t.

    From there, I launched a testbed site to show off to my client and finally the final site. Today my client called me and told me all the photos were missing from the Gallery the day following adding new photos.

    I reuploaded everything from my backup (Which didn’t include his uploads from the night before) logged into the dashboard, went through the install producers for Easyest “Settings >> Easyest” and set the directory. Then in Easyest Gallery I found that all of the Gallerys were sent to the trash, so I republished them and all the photos I restored via my backup worked, but I had “Missing Content” text and broken images in my Media Library for all the new photos I didn’t have a back up of.

    At that point I decided to make this post, but I did a quick CSS tweak to a button on a page and noticed that all the “Missing Content” tags were gone and any trace of the photos uploaded last night by my client were gone.

    TL:DR Version: I think it’s a permissions issue with WordPress. Mainly because of that weird problem I had when I first installed Easyest Gallery and because I manually made the folder it’s trying to create it’s own and overwriting it? *Total speculation*

    Also, I currently have the site and Easyest Gallery in three locations: localhost, a preview site on my webhost and the live version at my clients domain. All three of them have had their galleries break since I finished the project. Two of them I am unaware of when they broke (local and the preview site) because I wasn’t monitoring them and the third broke last night a few hour after being updating with new pictures.

    So I doubt it’s user error since two were unattended, but that doesn’t mean it’s not admin error and I something on my end with configuring WordPress is off.

    On my preview site, I’m going to disable all my plugins and themes, fix the gallery and upload a new picture and see what happens. But I highly doubt another plugin is deleting a folder specific to Easyest Gallery, but you never know.

    Plugin Author Marcel Brinkkemper

    (@macbrink)

    I am going to explore the code once again.
    The script should only delete the folder from the file system when you permanently delete a galleryfolder post in admin.
    If the plugin can’t find a folder, it will trash the galleryfolder post instead of permanently delete to prevent the folder from being deleted from file system on a read/write error.
    Somehow the script is still deleting the folders from file system.

    To whom it may concern:
    This is a very serious problem, rendering the plugin unusable if we cannot solve it. I have tried various scenarios, but it won’t happen to any of my test or live installs.

    Please help me in finding this error by installing version 0.1.0-RC-12-debug. In this version, all calls to delete files or folders have been disabled. Instead, the script will issue a warning message.

    Please add the following code to your wp-config.php to catch the messages in wp-content/error.log.
    Before the line /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */.

    define('WP_DEBUG', true);
    define('WP_DEBUG_LOG', true );
    define('WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false);
    @ini_set('log_errors_max_len',0);
    @ini_set('display_errors',0);

    Check this file daily to see if Eazyest Gallery tried to delete files and/or folders. If so, please send the file to eazyest (at) brimosoft.nl.
    If you still see your gallery disappearing, it most probably is not due to eazyest-gallery.

    Thanks for the quick response.

    I went ahead and added the code to my config file before the stop editing line and installed the debug version of RC-12 on my preview site.

    I honestly wouldn’t doubt if some other plugin is interfering with Easyest Gallery. I would like to know what plugins G.Designer is using to try and narrow it down.

    In the mean time, I’m going to try and recreate the problem by enabling all my plugins and uploading photos and adding captions.

    Thanks again.

    The only similarities in the issues about the disappearing galleries is that the blogs are hosted on GoDaddy and the use of the plugin Lightbox Plus ColorBox.
    I have tried all plugins listed in yourost, but I still couldn’t reproduce the error.
    What worries me most is that the gallery root folder is deleted also. The script has extra checks to not delete this folder.

    Getting this error also. Has 2 folders just completely disappear.
