Menu background doesn't show up

I’m new to the Wopdpress, and would appreciate your help.

There is this site, I’m building for a friend of mine, and I’m trying to customize blog appearance for web site look. I’m not able to understand why my background for a menu div doesn’t show, and why is it on the right side? I believe that icons do not show for the same reason.
