• What do I need to add to the link code so that a new page is opened when someone clicks on that link? I would prefer that the reader doesn’t completely migrate away from my page when he checks out the link.

  • Please do NOT do this! Spawning new windows/tabs without the user’s permission causes aggravation at best and, at worst, will leave some users stranded in the new window with no way back because you broke their browser’s Back button.

    OK, you’ve got me confused.

Who is the user in your example?

How can visitors to the new page be stranded? All they’d have to do is close the window, or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for your clarification.

As soon as you open a new window, you break the browser’s Back button. Some disabled users rely heavily on this button to move around a site. By breaking the button, you leave them stranded in the new window and, as discrimination against disabled web users is often illegal in many countries, this could have legal consequences for your site.
