• Hi there,

Total noob at this stuff, but the Codex has been really handy.

I’ve managed to upload all the files via Filezilla to my site. Created a new database, and a new wp-config file.

However when I come to the last step, so to speak, this part…

“If you placed the WordPress files in the root directory, you should visit: https://example.com/wp-admin/install.php
If you placed the WordPress files in a subdirectory called blog, for example, you should visit: https://example.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php”

It fails. When I type in the above with the correct address/folders it just reverts me back to where I bought the domain from (123 Reg). I’ve tried every permutation of my website’s address with all the folders and still nothing.

No idea what I’ve done wrong or what I can do to rectify it.

    Help?!

  • It sounds as though you are hosting your site at a different provider than where you purchased your domain.

If this is correct, then you must set the name servers at 123 Reg to the values that will be provided somewhere within your hosting site account. This tells the domain URL to “point to” where the site is physically located (hosted).

If your hosting site uses cPanel, these values will be towards the bottom of the page in the left side bar.

Keep in mind however that once you do set the name servers, it can take a while for the change to take effect, some times up to 48 or more hours (but it is usually a lot quicker).

    Cheers!

    Hi, thanks for responding.

That isn’t the case. The domain name and the hosting is both being done by 123 Reg.

    Any other suggestions?

As a precaution I’ve gone and pointed the site to the host. Will update if need further help after 2 days or so ??
