comments page not working

I am “attempting” to create a template. I got everything but the comments page to work. I have searched through the forum and couldn’t find anything, and i asked on a couple other forums and they couldn’t help either. I am trying to add the comments to single.php, but i tried a bunch of codes and nothing worked. I tried the basic ones like <?php comment_text(); ?> - <?php comment_author(); ?> but nothing appeared. I also tried taking the kubrick one, but it didn’t work either. I can’t figure out why it’s not working. If anyone could help, i would really appreciate it.
