    I’m trying to get my Instant WordPress Theme files from my local computer to the right place on my new hosting server. Can anyone read the below and help please? I’m hoping I’m only one or two clicks away!

    My hosting company uploaded WordPress for me onto my server and it works fine.
    I have created a new addon domain for the new WP site (I do not have the DNS pointed yet).
    I have my Instant WordPress theme files on my computer.
    I have FileZilla FTP for uploading.

    I uploaded (2 hours) my entire Instant WordPress Theme folder that is on my computer to:
    public_html
    [my addon site name]
    wp-content
    themes

    The new theme was extracted and is in place next to all the other pre-loaded themes. But not available to activate in my backend admin.

    I contacted the hosting companies support and they said that the file I uploaded is a Windows based program (ie. Instant WordPress).
    ” I noticed that the files contained are not likely to be part of any WordPress theme.
    To my opinion you have uploaded a software that could be installed only on Windows machines in order to develop WordPress:”

    This seems like BS to me because my theme works very well on my computer with all the design features I’ve built and I’m sure Instant WordPress work can be uploaded to your server or what’s the point.

    So what is next?

    The Instant WP Theme files are all on my host server in the proper Theme folder.

    What needs to happen to get them to work?

    Did I not understand what Instant WordPress was and wasted weeks in designing that I can never upload to my host server?

    Hopefully there is something easy I’m just not doing?

    Thanks in Advance!

    You know what….I am looking at the folder I uploaded to the server. I’m thinking that I need to cherry pick what’s in the folder to upload?

    Here’s what’s in it:
    * iwpserver
    * loader
    * system
    * InstantWP
    * InstantWP.exe.manifest
    * ReadMe

    Seems like I don’t need InstantWP for sure? Others?

    Is this the issue? I uploaded stuff I wasn’t suppose to?

    Thanks

    Hi there, I can recommend the Instant WordPress Unleashed guide that they sell on the website. https://www.instantwp.com/unleashed/

    I purchased this when I first started using InstantWP and its has saved me a lot of time and trouble. I has a chapter all about the problem you are facing, and some cool plugins that will make your life a lot easier when developing locally and then deploying to a live site. I figured the product was free, and I use it all the time, so why not reward the developer.

    I realize this does not solve your problem directly – but you must realize that WordPress is database driven, you can’t just upload files like you would with an HTML site.

    Good luck ??

    Hi Dazzlr…. Would you mind opening up your book to the chapter that tells the answer to my dilemma and posting it here?

    Thanks

    Yeah.. but, no. The information you were given is completely correct. You uploaded the entire instant wordpress application. Approx 230MB. That’s why it took 2 hrs instead of 10 seconds.

    I’m trying to get my Instant WordPress Theme files from my local computer to the right place on my new hosting server.

    Open the directory where you installed instant wordpress and navigate to the theme you want. This is the path. Just keep opening the folders until you get inside the themes directory.

    InstantWP_4.3\iwpserver\htdocs\wordpress\wp-content\themes\

    Now right-click > copy the theme(s) you want to copy to to your live site, and then right-click > paste it to your desktop (or where ever, you choose)

    Now use your ftp client to transfer that entire theme folder(s) to the /wp-content/themes/ directory on your live site.

    It’s that simple.

    Hi Clayton,

    I followed your instructions. The folder and associated files were transferred with Filezilla, but I don’t see (in the Dashboard) any signs of the pages I had developed with Instant WordPress. Is there more I need to do that perhaps you considered to be obvious?

    Thanks!

    @gisnar

    Page and post content is stored in your database, not your themes files. Transferring theme files won’t transfer your content.

    That makes sense as I see the theme has been transferred but not the content. However, even though the original question in this thread talks about transferring themes, it seems that the intent was to transfer the content as well. So how can that be done easily? Also, transferring themes (unless they are custom-developed) does not seem to be of that much value since they can be installed as easily on the web-server as in Instant WordPress.

    I don’t agree. In fact, in addition to the title on this thread, the first statement presented is this: “I’m trying to get my Instant WordPress Theme files from my local computer to the right place on my new hosting server”

    So, no. I don’t agree.

    That opinion seems about right to me. Unless you’re customizing a theme, it’s pretty much pointless to transfer it from Instant WordPress to your live site.

    … So how can that be done easily?

    Properly export (backup) your local database and then import it into your live site.

    Instant WordPress isn’t supported here, but here’s some general reference material.
