Restoring sql.gz backup to new installation

    I wanted to transfer my site domain from a .com to a .co.uk, the .com was backed up and emailed each week, so I thought I could use that to restore the database to the new installation of wordpress. My old site is gone now and I have tried to restore the sql.gz file to the new site via phpmyadmen but each time I get the error ‘1046 no database selected’. Can anypone explain what I am doing wrong and how to restore the gz file.
