    Hi!

While I was trying to import my Blogger posts into WP, the import script timed out. I assumed that part was Blogger’s fault, so I just decided to try it later and restored my template on Blogger. Imagine my dismay when I went back to look at my blog, though, and found that all of the paragraph breaks had been removed from every one of my posts!

Being a patient type person, I decided to try going through all of my three hundred or so posts and putting them back in. For some odd reason, though, when I’m in the editing view, the paragraph breaks are there. I tried changing the template (several times), but it didn’t make the breaks come back, either.

I know this probably sounds like a small thing, but it’s extremely frustrating. I just want my paragraph breaks back when people view my blog so my posts are readable again.

I tried Googling for this question already, but I didn’t find anything like it. I also tried the search box built into this page, but I think it might be broken, because it never comes up with anything.

    Thanks for the help.

How to search the forums (this is at the top of the forums page in PINK)

Probably not it, but you might want to check stylesheet of the theme you’re using and see how paragraphs are styled. Or does blogger still use the br tags? Been awhile since I’ve used blogger.

I did search that way, HandySolo, as I mentioned in my post. ^_^ (“I tried Googling for this question already…”) It came up with a lot of related answers, but none that fixed mine.

I didn’t think it was the paragraph styling either, kickass, but I did check again. It didn’t work, but thanks for the suggestion anyway!

It seems this problem is a recurring one for some, but I think it is not necessarily a WP issue, more of a server issue? I thought there was a way to increase execution time in a script, but I can’t seem to remember how to do it, perhaps someone could post it? If it is a connection issue, is there not a way to increase the amount of time the script will wait before it gives up on connecting?

Could it be a blogger setting that was changed when the import was occuring? In the Blogger Settings tab there is a Formatting option. One of the items in there is “Convert line breaks” that can be Yes or No. If that was changed as part of the import process then it might be messing with you.

I have noticed that in the “preview” mode it always defaults to the equivalent of “Yes” even if you have it set to “No” like I do, so that might explain why the posts look good in the preview.

Generally, the “server timeout” is only adjustable by the host. Some hosts will change this upward to accomodate a good client; others simply won’t do it under any circumstances.

Thank you so much, Poco! That was exactly it, and I feel stupid for not having seen it myself. -_-”

Niziol, if you do obtain such a script, I would be extremely grateful to get it. You can contact me at bethanydonne at gmail dot com.

I know I had changed the timeout in one of my futile efforts to make update-links.php work, but the blogger importer seems to use CURL, which I know nothing about! That said, looking through the file there are several settings, including CURLOPT_TIMEOUT which might do something, but again, I really don’t know – and seeing as how I wouldn’t really trust myself to tinker with it for my own blog, I’d suggest you use it as a starting point to research it out ??

Sorry I can’t offer you a better solution, but this is about the end of my “I haven’t destroyed the server yet so I guess it’s OK” technical abilities.

Good luck, hopefully one of the PHP wizards who might come across this can offer some type of solution!
