500 Internal Server Error with Windows Live Writer

    I was hoping that someone might be able to help me. For a while now I have been experiencing problems when trying to get categories and posts from my blog using Windows Live writer. In essence – when I select “Open Recent Post” and then choose my site I get the following error:

    The server reported an error with the following web address:

    https://www.telnetport25.com/xmlrpc.php

    500 Internal Server Error

    I also get the same when trying to refresh categories. I have tracked the issue to the Jetpack plug in – if I disable it, Live Writer works correctly. Has anyone else seen this – or can help?

    Since you get a 500 error when trying to access your site through Windows Live Writer, could you check your server error logs around the times when the error happened, in order to find out more about the issue?
    If you do not have access to your error logs, your hosting provider should be able to help.

    You can then paste the error here, I’d be happy to investigate further and find out why Jetpack seems incompatible with Windows Live Writer on your site.

    Hiya Jeremy, I am really sorry for the delay in responding to you – and I thank you for your offer of help. Today I figured out what was wrong (by looking at the error logs on my site :-)). In essence I had to increase the values of memory_limit and php_value_memory_limit in my PHP.ini file. I set them both to 128M and I can now Load all posts from within Live Writer.
    Just for further reference I was seeing:

    AH01215: PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 50331648 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 280291 bytes) xxxx

    Being logged when I was using Live Writer to try and load more than 20 posts.
