I need some help because i did something stupid on one of my sites. I deleted a bunch of categories liek if I had Apple Annie news and just Apple Annie, I kept the Annie.

    Now I have 404 errors.

I have now figured out that is should have set up a redirect.

I can find all the categories slug that I deleted.

Are they really gone or can I set up that deleted category slug to point to another.

Or am I stuck with visitors getting to a 404 page.

If I somehow salvage this and redirect it can someone give me step by step as to how to direct the now deleted category to another category.

And do I put it in my .htaccess and where exactly do I place it.

    Any ideas would be appreciated

    Thanks

    Thanks

More detail – I deleted about 30 categories. Since that time I have done 10 more posts.

I want to recover the categories because I do not like the 404’s.

1.) Will restoring the database put the categories back?

2.) Can I only restore part of the database – the posts and categories or does it have to be the whole thing?

3.)I know I will lose the old posts but I have backed those up

Do you think that is the way to go or do you recommend anything else?

just an update in case anyone else has the problem. I am still kind of stumped and I would caution you to be careful before deleting. I have added alot of content to my site and all it OK now.
